Where to stay in Mui Ne

Mui Ne is a long, curving stretch of coast just east of Phan Thiet in southern Vietnam, known for steady sea breezes, kitesurfing, red and white sand dunes and a busy fishing harbour. It's a popular escape from Ho Chi Minh City, a few hours away by road or rail.

Almost all the places we list are on or near Nguyen Dinh Chieu, the coast road through Ham Tien, where resorts face the sea on one side and restaurants, shops and small guesthouses line the other.

Mui Ne, area by area

The coast road runs east from Phan Thiet through Ham Tien to Mui Ne village and the dunes beyond.

Ham Tien and the resort strip

Best for beach resorts and restaurants

Most of Mui Ne's hotels sit along this stretch of Nguyen Dinh Chieu. Beachfront resorts have gardens and pools running down to the sand, while the inland side has seafood restaurants, bars, kitesurf schools and minimarts.

The beach here varies along its length and through the seasons, with some stretches narrowed by erosion, so a resort pool is often the best place to swim. The western end, closer to the Fairy Stream, is busier; the eastern end, towards the village, is quieter.

Mui Ne village and the dunes

Best for local life and sunrise

At the eastern end of the bay, Mui Ne's fishing harbour is busy at dawn, when round basket boats bring in the catch. The red sand dunes are just beyond, and the larger white sand dunes, with their lakes, are around 45 minutes further north-east.

Phan Thiet

Best for local city life and golf

Phan Thiet is the provincial capital, a working fishing town famous for its fish sauce, with a riverside market and the Po Sah Inu Cham towers on a hill to the east. The Sea Links golf course sits on the cliffs between the city and Ham Tien.
