Homestay in Tam Coc and Hang Mua
Cherry homestay
A friendly garden homestay in the karst country
See today's offersNinh Binh, about two hours south of Hanoi, is often called Ha Long Bay on land: a landscape of sheer limestone peaks rising from rice paddies and winding rivers. Rowing boats glide through caves at Tam Coc and Trang An, and the views from the top of Hang Mua are among the best in northern Vietnam.
Many visitors come on a day trip from Hanoi, but staying overnight lets you see the valleys in the quiet of early morning and at sunset. The places we list are mostly countryside homestays and bungalows around Tam Coc, Hang Mua and Trang An, with pools, gardens and mountain views.

Most visitors stay in the countryside south-west of Ninh Binh city, where the karst scenery begins.
Best for village life, views and cycling
Tam Coc is a village surrounded by karst peaks, where boat trips run along the Ngo Dong River through three caves and rice fields. It has the widest choice of homestays, cafes and bike rental.
Just north, Hang Mua is a viewpoint reached by around 500 stone steps, with a dragon statue on the ridge and sweeping views over Tam Coc's valley. Bungalows and homestays dot the fields around its base.
Best for boat trips and temples
The Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers longer boat trips through caves, temples and lagoons. Nearby, Hoa Lu was Vietnam's capital in the 10th century, and the vast Bai Dinh pagoda complex is a short drive further.
Staying at least one night lets you see the boats and viewpoints in the quieter early morning and late afternoon, and enjoy the countryside after the day trips leave.
Both offer boat trips through caves and karst scenery. Tam Coc's trip is shorter and passes rice fields; Trang An's is longer, with more caves and temples.
Spring and autumn are pleasant. The rice is golden around late May and early June, and the summer months are hot with occasional heavy rain.
Yes. Boat trips, easy bike rides and the steps of Hang Mua are fun for children, and many homestays have pools and family rooms.
Bicycles are ideal for the flat valleys, and many homestays lend them. Scooters and taxis help for longer trips to Bai Dinh or Cuc Phuong National Park.
