Kembang Kuning sits right on the Bingin shoreline, one of the Bukit's most loved surf beaches. Its bungalows have air conditioning, private bathrooms and views of the garden, and many guests spend their days moving between the waves, the sand and the pool, which looks out over the sea.

The restaurant serves Indonesian and American dishes with outdoor seating, which is handy after an early surf session. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Why it works for a stay in Bali

Bingin is a small cliff-backed beach with a famous left-hand reef break, and most places to stay cling to the slope above it. Being right on the beach means no long staircase climbs between your room and the water, and you can watch the surf from breakfast.

When the tide is low, the reef shelf at Bingin reveals rock pools, and when it's high, surfers fill the line-up. Either way, the sunset over the Indian Ocean is a nightly event, with small warungs along the shore serving cold drinks.

Bingin is a short ride from Padang Padang, the beach made famous by the film Eat Pray Love, and from the big break at Uluwatu, so surfers can choose their wave each morning. Non-surfers have plenty to do too, from cliff-top yoga studios to the seafood restaurants of Jimbaran Bay for dinner.
