See today's offersMalacca (Melaka) was one of Asia's great trading ports, ruled in turn by a Malay sultanate, the Portuguese, the Dutch and the British. Its historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a mix of red Dutch buildings, Chinese temples, mosques, shophouses and a riverside lined with murals.
It's also famous for Peranakan, or Baba-Nyonya, culture and food, a blend of Chinese and Malay traditions. The places we list are small hotels within walking distance of the old town or in the modern town centre nearby.

The historic core sits on both banks of the Malacca River, with the modern town centre and shopping malls to the east and south.
Best for history, temples and food
West of the river, Chinatown's narrow streets hold Jonker Street, the Cheng Hoon Teng temple, the Baba and Nyonya Heritage Museum and countless cafes and shophouse restaurants. East of the river, Dutch Square's red Stadthuys and Christ Church face St Paul's Hill and the ruins of the Portuguese fort, A Famosa.
Best for shopping and value
